The beat movement of the sixties was not strictly bound to the shores of jolly old England. Germany had it’s share of raucous rhythm and blues activity. Regardless of being locked behind the iron curtain, The Boots from Berlin began in 1964, stocking their set with Chuck Berry, Slim Harpo, John Lee Hooker and Rufus Thomas standards. They forged a name for themselves on the scene and were soon regulars at the Starpalast chain of clubs in northern Germany. Following some line-up changes that drafted members from The Jeckills and The Hound Dogs the band were on course to becoming one of Germany’s best known rhythm and blues bands.
Although their repertoire depended upon walkin’ the same ground as The Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Pretty Things and Them the band developed a signature sound that incorporated innovative guitar solos that deviated from the original renditions; heavy Hammond organ fills; unfailing gritty vocals; and a stout rhythmic backbone.
Without the same fanfare that was lauded upon their British counterparts The Boots managed to conquer their motherland and left behind two albums; Here Are The Boots and Beat With The Boots along with several singles that are worthy of any self respecting sixties beat collection
